Salone's answer to Lance Armstrong's ubiquitous LIVESTRONG bracelets? These rubber bands got shipped into the country with a boatload of "junks clothes" -- second hand stuff donated from the States. Someone picked them up and started selling them, creating a trend that spread all over the city. Every man on the street now wears these bands that obscurely say "Son Harvest Country Fair." I got me some, too.

Were you this cool when you were thirteen? I think not. On the other hand, you also didn't have to spend your days hawking African-flag colored jewelry on the streets.

I can't remember this kid's name, but when I met him in the Remand Home (the cement cell where they hold the kids that get arrested before they get seen by the court, be it a month or three or more) he told me that his mother was in the States and if he could just get in touch with her, he'd be able to go there too. Unfortunately, the officers in charge let me in on the secret that he has a head injury which made him a bit erratic, and basically off his rocker. It was sad. But I did like his look, and I thought the fact that he could pull off the flask in this place -- that's pretty amazing.

A few months later I saw him strutting down the street, hoodie pulled over his head -- apparently he had escaped.
